Petition of Experts Urges Law Enforcement Reform, Emphasises Cross-Institutional Collaboration
The Indonesian Association of Legal Practitioners and Legal Experts (Petisi Ahli) emphasises the importance of strengthening an integrity-based and adaptive law enforcement system in response to global dynamics. Petisi Ahli’s patron, Ito Sumardi, stressed that Indonesia’s legal future cannot be built sectorally, with cross-institutional collaboration being key to delivering legal certainty and justice. “Future law enforcement must be based on synergy. It can no longer operate independently if we want to create a system with integrity that is trusted by the public,” he stated in his remarks on Tuesday (7/7). Meanwhile, legal academic Firman Wijaya assessed that legal reform is not sufficient if merely normative but must touch on substantive justice aspects. “The law must live in society, not just as text. That is where the legitimacy of law enforcement is tested,” he said. Petisi Ahli affirms its position as a collaborative forum across legal professions that is not affiliated as an advocacy organisation but is open to synergising with all law enforcement elements. Petisi Ahli President Pitra Romadoni Nasution stated that his side is committed to maintaining legal independence while promoting just reform. “We want to be a bridge between national interests and global dynamics in the legal field, without abandoning the basic principles of justice,” he asserted. According to him, amid criticism and pressure on law enforcement institutions, moral courage and collective integrity are needed to uphold the honour of the law. Petisi Ahli positions itself as an intellectual force ready to guide the direction of Indonesia’s future law enforcement, so that it is not only strong regulatorily but also responsive to contemporary challenges.
