Petersen Quartett & Siegfried Matthus

Currently in Jakarta to participate in the European Union
Music Festival: Music of the 20th Century, which is being held
through to April, 1999, is the Petersen Quartett and Siegfried
Matthus. The Petersen Quartet was founded in 1979 by students
from the conservatory of music Hans Eisler Musikhochschule,.

Today, this group is one of the most important quartets in
Germany. They will perform during the festival at venues in
Bandung, Feb. 22; Surabaya, Feb. 24; and Jakarta, Feb. 26. On
Feb. 27, they will join a Composer Workshop at Erasmus Huis,
Jakarta.

Noted German composer Siegfried Matthus will hold the
workshop. Matthus is one of the rare East German composers who
have gained international recognition since the 1970s. Matthus
will present his composition Das Mdchen und der Tod (The Girl
and Death) in the workshop.
