Pesantren Al Falah Ploso Announces Eid al-Fitr Will Fall on Friday
Kediri (ANTARA) — Pesantren Al Falah in Ploso Village, Mojo District, Kediri Regency, East Java, has determined that 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah will fall on Friday, 20 March 2026, based on calculations by the pesantren’s astronomical calculations committee (lajnah falakiyah).
This announcement was made by Yai Ma’shum, one of the senior advisors (Mufattisy) at Pesantren Al-Falah Ploso, during an online broadcast.
“For the beginning of Syawal 1447 Hijriah, it falls on Friday Legi, 20 March 2026, based on considerations that the final conjunction of Ramadan occurs on Thursday Kliwon, 19 March 2026, at 17:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) with a crescent visibility height of 05 degrees 12 minutes,” he said, as reported in the broadcast on Wednesday.
The decision was based on calculations by Pesantren Al Falah’s astronomical committee in Ploso, Kediri Regency.
Pesantren Al Falah Ploso previously also set the beginning of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah on Thursday Pahing, 19 February 2026, based on calculations that the final conjunction of Syaban occurred on Tuesday Kliwon, 17 February 2026, at 17:52 WIB, with a crescent visibility height of 11 degrees 57 minutes.
Gus Mahsus, one of the instructors at Pesantren Al Falah Ploso, said the decision was made according to the astronomical calendar system that has been established.
“Before every celebration, the pesantren receives many phone calls from the public asking about Eid al-Fitr arrangements. For this reason, we created a calendar as a guide,” he said.
However, the pesantren emphasised that this decision is primarily for its own community and can serve as a guide for internal members and alumni.
This decision also differs from that made by Pesantren Lirboyo in Kediri.
K.H. Abdul Muid Shohib, spokesperson for Pesantren Lirboyo Kediri, emphasised that Pesantren Lirboyo remains consistent in following established Islamic jurisprudence in determining the beginning of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
He explained that the principle used is calculation (hisab) as the basis for determining the beginning and sighting (rukyah) as the final determinant, consistent with the government’s guidelines for the official isbat session.
He also added that the pesantren sees no need to announce the beginning of Ramadan or Eid al-Fitr before the government’s official decision through the isbat session is established.
Gus Muid, as he is familiarly known, further stated that Pesantren Lirboyo Kediri views the government’s isbat decision as guidance that brings the greatest benefit, especially when different views emerge within the Islamic community.
“This aligns with the Islamic legal principle ‘hukmul hakim yarfa’ul khilaf’ (the government’s decision can resolve differences),” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) will hold an isbat session to determine 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah on 19 March 2026, coinciding with 29 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
The session, which will determine the official date of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, will be held in Jakarta starting at 16:00 WIB on Thursday, 19 March.
