TOKYO (AFP): The Peruvian embassy in Tokyo remained silent on
Saturday about embattled President Alberto Fujimori's informal
visit to Tokyo, insisting no schedule for his departure was
known.
"We cannot make any comments," an embassy official said. No
one was available at the Japanese foreign ministry to confirm his
itinerary.
Fujimori, on a stop in Japan after attending the Asia-Pacific
Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Brunei, on Thursday denied
to AFP rumors that he might seek asylum in Malaysia.
Fujimori, 62, who came to Tokyo from Malaysia, was expected to
stay at a Tokyo hotel Friday night and leave for Panama Saturday,
where he is scheduled to attend a two-day Iberian-American
meeting.
