JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned housing company Perum Perumnas plans to build more than 10,973 new houses and apartments in 15 locations in Greater Jakarta this year, an official says.
Company spokesman Azis Dahlan said over the weekend that the apartment complexes in Cengkareng and Kemayoran in West and Central Jakarta are part of the plan.
The Cengkareng complex has 768 apartments and the Kemayoran has 363 apartments, Antara reported.
Azis said the other 13 projects will be spread throughout the city. East Jakarta will get two in Pulo Gebang and Malaka Asri, Tangerang three in Karawaci, Cisoka and Suradita, and Bekasi four in Rawa Lumbu, Bojong Menteng, Setia Mekar and Rawa Tembaga. The remaining four housing projects will be in Depok, Tegal Gundil, Parung Panjang and Jonggol, all in Bogor.
The largest houses will be 21 square-meters, Azis said.
The most serious problem faced by Perum Perumnas is appropriating land. "Therefore building apartments is the most suitable," he said.
Low-cost apartments will likely be built near industrial estates for factory workers. (sur)
