Pertamina's LLA-5 well production exceeds target

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) has recorded production from the LLA-5 well at 780 barrels per day, surpassing the initial target of 300 barrels per day.

“The success of the drilling at the LLA-5 well is tangible proof that the reserve potential in the offshore area of north West Java remains highly promising for continued development,” said General Manager of PHE ONWJ, Muzwir Wiratama, in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The LLA-5 well commenced operations on 26 June 2026. Pertamina assessed the quality of the crude oil lifted as very good, with a minimal water content of three per cent.

The offshore oil exploration process was not without obstacles, according to Muzwir. Pertamina faced technical challenges, but the field team managed to overcome all hurdles amid high operational risks.

The LLA-5 well is currently still in the initial clean-up stage, with the estimated oil production rate expected to increase further.

This additional oil extends a lifeline for national oil production, which has recently been declining — a normal condition for oil and gas production sourced from mature fields.

“This is a strong foundation for us to continue with the next drilling programme, with the LLA-7 well,” said Muzwir.

The Java Region has been given the authority by PHE to coordinate upstream oil and gas fields in the western part of Java, encompassing PHE ONWJ, PHE OSES, Pertamina EP’s West Java region and Pertamina East Natuna. The Java Region’s working area covers the provinces of DKI Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, Bangka Belitung and West Java.
