Pertamina's GreenBus Invites Young Generation to Learn from Green Village
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Through the GreenBus Pertamina 2026 programme, Pertamina is involving the community, particularly the younger generation, to begin adopting more environmentally friendly lifestyles. On this occasion, the GreenBus Pertamina Programme visited Kampung Hijau Gang Cemara in North Jakarta, an area under Pertamina’s CSR development that has successfully transformed a dense and slum-like neighbourhood into a productive green space.
At this location, participants were introduced to various innovations in waste management, urban farming, and food security, all of which are managed collectively with the local community.
Yasser, a participant from SMA Negeri 3 Jakarta, admitted that he initially assumed areas on the outskirts of Jakarta had low environmental awareness. However, after seeing it firsthand, his perception changed.
“I am actually delighted to see that the community here has extraordinary care for the environment; in my opinion, it is even more palpable than in some areas in the city centre,” said Yasser, as quoted on Saturday (4/7/2026).
While participating in GreenBus Pertamina, Yasser learned how to process organic waste into fish feed, explored urban farming, and tried various innovative harvest products. He noted that there is much knowledge that can be applied upon returning to school.
“I am currently running an environmental-themed programme. Therefore, there is a lot of knowledge that I can bring home and attempt to implement,” he said.
For Yasser, GreenBus Pertamin is not merely an educational trip, but also a space that connects the younger generation with good practices that can be replicated in their own environments.
“GreenBus Pertamina can serve as a platform to guide young people to become more environmentally conscious. This programme broadens horizons, showing that protecting the environment can start with simple actions taken together,” he added.
Another participant, Nuzlah, shared similar sentiments, noting that the programme provided an opportunity for direct learning.
“In my view, this activity increases knowledge, experience, and networking. We can certainly find information on social media or the internet, but visiting the field directly feels different. We can see and directly practise environmental science,” she said.
In a separate statement, the Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Pertamina (Persero), Muhammad Baron, stated that the GreenBus Pertamina programme is an educational initiative by Pertamina to provide the younger generation with opportunities to observe and directly engage in various actions regarding sustainability issues. In 2026, there are four locations scheduled for visits.
“Through this programme, selected participants will be invited to explore environmental best practices, local culture, technology, and sustainability innovations through educational journeys, mentoring, and incubation programmes,” said Baron.
Through GreenBus Pertamina, Baron explained, participants are not only encouraged to understand environmental issues but also to witness that solutions can begin within the smallest environments.
According to him, through Kampung Hijau Cemara, the community, local groups, and the business world have been able to transform a village into a productive green space, serving as an inspiration for the younger generation to protect the environment.
“In addition to Kampung Hijau Cemara, we will also take participants to other Pertamina CSR locations that align with and implement environmental management practices in the community. These include Kampung Eduwisata Bhinneka in Central Jakarta, which focuses on climate-conscious village management using renewable energy; Kampung Keberagaman and Batik Proklim Lestari in Cirebon, to observe batik making using plastic bottle waste for waxless batik; and Kampoeng Radjoet Binong, Merajut Asa Kita, in Bandung, to learn about creating fashion accessories from fabric scraps,” Baron noted.
Beyond this programme, Pertamina also operates the Sekolah Energi Berdikari STEM programme. This is an experience-based environmental education initiative designed to foster awareness and real action among the youth regarding sustainability issues, utilising simple technology and science.
