Pertamina's Fleet Supports Energy Distribution Amid Global Challenges
This week, Pertamina’s LPG carrier MT Gas Attaka successfully docked at the Integrated LPG Terminal Jetty in Amurang, South Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. The ship, with a capacity of around 1,700 metric tons of LPG, plays a crucial role in supporting LPG supply resilience in the Sulawesi and Kalimantan regions. Additionally, the LPG tanker Gas Ambalat also docked at Kalbut, Situbondo, carrying LPG supplies for needs in East Java and surrounding areas. Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Pertamina (Persero), Muhammad Baron, stated that maritime routes are one of the pillars of energy distribution, delivering fuel oil and LPG to Indonesia, an archipelagic nation. “Amid global geopolitics, Pertamina remains committed to ensuring energy distribution. Our ships are en route to deliver energy to the community,” he explained. Overall, Pertamina, through its Downstream subholding, operates 345 ships, both owned and chartered, comprising 271 fuel oil/specialised fuel carriers, 27 crude carriers, 4 petrochemical carriers, and 43 LPG carriers. This fleet serves various routes, including 57 underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions scattered across the archipelago, from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku to Papua. He added that ship operations are conducted by crew working in shifts around the clock to ensure safe and timely distribution, especially in facing extreme weather challenges and geographical navigation in archipelagic areas and 3T regions. Facing geopolitical issues, Pertamina is also strengthening operations across all business lines. As an integrated energy company, upstream oil and gas production is being driven to increase, thereby adding to domestic production contributions. Additionally, refinery processing is being optimised to meet energy product needs for the public and industrial sectors. Besides operational strengthening, Pertamina is enhancing collaboration with local governments and law enforcement to maintain national energy distribution governance. Pertamina supports firm actions by authorities against individuals involved in hoarding or misusing subsidised fuel oil and LPG. “The public can play an active role by reporting indications of energy misuse through law enforcement agencies or Pertamina’s Contact Center 135. Pertamina also invites the public to conserve energy together, by using it wisely according to needs,” Baron concluded.
