Pertamina Uses Environmentally Friendly Technology for Energy Distribution
Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga optimises national energy distribution through the management of a modern, efficient, and internationally standardised sea fleet, including MT Pagerungan. “Through the modernisation of ships such as MT Pagerungan, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen the energy logistics system so that supply can be delivered safely, efficiently, and sustainably,” said Arif Yunianto, Director of Logistics Armada at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, in a statement received in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday. The fleet supports energy connectivity from main terminals such as Balongan, Tuban, and Tanjung Wangi, as well as operational areas in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, to Eastern Indonesia. Strengthening MT Pagerungan’s role is also in line with Pertamina Patra Niaga’s commitment to ensuring energy distribution not only runs reliably but also becomes more efficient and sustainable. In the last five years, the vessel has undergone modernisation through the adoption of technologies that support operational efficiency, navigational safety, and environmental management. Technologically, MT Pagerungan is equipped with several energy efficiency devices, including a fin stabiliser which helps maintain the vessel’s stability at sea, thereby reducing drag and making fuel consumption more optimal. Additionally, the use of a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) can dynamically regulate the operation of electric motors so energy use is more efficient and engine loads are better managed. In addition to energy efficiency technology, MT Pagerungan is also equipped with a Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) that processes ballast water before discharge back into the sea, including through filtration and inactivation of biological and microbial organisms. The BWTS implementation forms part of the vessel’s compliance with international environmental standards, while also supporting protection of aquatic ecosystems from the potential spread of invasive species. Through the application of these technologies, MT Pagerungan can operate its distribution operations more effectively, safely, and in an environmentally friendly manner. By operating MT Pagerungan, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to promote the role of the sea fleet as an important part of maintaining national energy connectivity. This effort embodies the company’s commitment to ensuring energy distribution is safe, efficient, and sustainable for communities and the industrial sector across various regions of Indonesia.
