Jakarta — A member of the Stakeholder Element of the National Energy Council (DEN), Saleh Abdurrahman has recommended PT Pertamina (Persero) tighten the distribution of subsidised fuel. This comes amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region, which have affected the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route through which approximately 20% of global oil trade passes.

According to Saleh, tightening subsidised fuel distribution is sufficiently important to ensure subsidies reach the correct targets whilst safeguarding national energy security amid global dynamics.

“We have asked Pertamina to implement digitalisation of QR Code utilisation more strictly so that fuel subsidies are increasingly well-targeted,” Saleh told CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Nevertheless, Saleh confirmed that the national energy stock remains in a stable condition. This was also conveyed by the Chairman of DEN in a session held previously.

“DEN continues to monitor the dynamics of our energy conditions and also global conditions to anticipate various possibilities in order to maintain our energy security,” he said.

Additionally, DEN has appealed to the public to make greater use of public transport to reduce fuel consumption. He assessed that the quality of public transport services also needs continuous improvement so that the public becomes increasingly comfortable.

“We also continue to urge people to use public transport and our public transport services should also be improved, safer, and more comfortable,” Saleh said.
