Pertamina triples subsidised LPG supply in Batam ahead of Eid
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumatera Bagian Utara (Sumbagut) has increased subsidised LPG supplies in the Riau Islands region, including Batam, by up to three times the normal daily requirement to anticipate the surge in demand ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
Sales Branch Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga Batam, Hanif Pradipta Nur Shalih, stated in Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday that the daily requirement for 3kg LPG in Batam city is around 50,000 cylinders.
To address the Eid period, the company is adding about 155,000 cylinders, distributed from 13 to 29 March 2026.
“From the distribution and operations side, we have prepared extra measures. Insya Allah, it will be safe to meet LPG needs in Batam and Riau Islands. Overall in Riau Islands, the addition reaches three times the normal daily requirement,” said Hanif.
According to him, even though some residents are travelling out of the area for Eid, LPG demand is expected to remain high, particularly during the return flow when household activities increase again.
“Pertamina ensures that this stock addition step is taken to maintain energy availability for the community and prevent potential shortages during the major religious holiday period,” he said.
In addition, Pertamina Sumbagut has reminded that there is a ban on the use of 3kg LPG by business actors such as laundries and restaurants.
He emphasised that the subsidised LPG is intended for eligible community members.
Hanif mentioned that the company has coordinated with relevant stakeholders to conduct supervision and field inspections of businesses suspected of misusing subsidised LPG.
Pertamina also encourages local governments to issue circular letters to reinforce the ban on the use of 3kg LPG by nutrition fulfilment service units (SPPG) in implementing the free nutritious meal programme.
With these various measures, Pertamina hopes that the distribution of subsidised LPG remains on target and the community’s needs during Eid can be well fulfilled.
