PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Jawa Bagian Barat (JBB) has assured that it will take full responsibility for the impacts of the explosion and fire at the SPBE in Cimuning, Mustika Jaya, Bekasi City. Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR at Pertamina Regional JBB, Susanto August Satria, expressed apologies for the incident. He explained that the SPBE which experienced the explosion is privately owned and a partner of Pertamina. “We apologise for the incident that occurred. Our current focus is on handling the victims and ensuring the impact does not spread,” he stated on Thursday. Pertamina has ensured that all injured victims from the incident will receive optimal medical treatment with costs covered by the company. “For the affected victims, we ensure they receive the best medical care,” Susanto said. In addition, Pertamina has stated it is ready to take responsibility for damage to residents’ homes around the location. However, the repair process will be carried out after data collection together with local government. “We will coordinate with RT, RW, and the sub-district office to identify the extent of the damage before the renovation process is carried out,” he explained. Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, revealed that to date there are 12 burn victims from the incident. The victims consist of local residents and SPBE employees, with burn degrees reaching 60-70 percent, and they are currently undergoing intensive treatment at several hospitals. “For now, 12 victims have been recorded, spread across several hospitals,” he said. Regarding the exact cause of the explosion and fire, Pertamina has not yet provided a final statement. The investigation process is still being conducted by the police, gathering statements from witnesses and local residents. “The chronology of the incident is still under further investigation; we are awaiting the results from the authorities,” Susanto said. The fire incident at SPBE Cimuning occurred on Wednesday (1/4) around 21:30 WIB and was extinguished in the early hours after firefighters, assisted by residents, worked to control the flames. Authorities are still continuing to assess the losses and ensure the victims’ conditions are monitored.
