Pertamina to Become an Energy Company

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: It is planned that the PT Pertamina (Persero) oil and gas company will also become an energy and petrochemicals company.

This is aimed at increasing its added-value so as to benefit Pertamina itself.

According to Hanung Budya, the Director of Marketing and Trade of Pertamina, within the next two or three years Pertamina’s business direction will be projected as energy supplier.

“We are looking into electricity business. We'll sell electricity to PLN (state electricity company),” Hanung said Thursday (24/8) at Denpasar, Bali.

He went on to say that Pertamina has the potential to become an energy supplier by maximizing existing resources.

As for electricity, for instance, Pertamina has some gas fields that can be utilized for electricity generating power plant.

It is planned that this unprofitable gas field can be turned into an electricity power plant.

This is in order to comply with the need for electric supply in remote areas where gas fields are situated and PLN does not have any electrical power plants there.

“It's better than burning the gas,” said Hanung.
