A Pertamina product tanker, MT Transko Arafura, managed by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, played a crucial role in rescuing victims of the KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2 fire in the Java Sea. The crew’s swift action successfully evacuated 17 people in safe condition after receiving an emergency report from the scene.

The KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2 fire occurred in waters approximately 19 nautical miles north of Sapudi Island, Java Sea. Upon receiving information about the incident, the MT Transko Arafura crew immediately moved towards the location to provide assistance.

Under the command of Captain Hans Kurniadi Sofyan, the entire crew carried out the rescue operation prioritising the safety of the victims. The rapid response was conducted through coordination with Basarnas, relevant authorities, and other vessels in the vicinity of the incident.

Thanks to this coordination, MT Transko Arafura successfully evacuated 17 victims in a safe and healthy condition. All rescued victims subsequently received treatment in accordance with standard procedures for maritime rescue operations.

The evacuation process involved more than one vessel. The integrated rescue operation included six ships and one tug boat that jointly assisted in the search and evacuation of KMP Mutiara Sentosa victims. The search for other victims is still ongoing, and authorities continue to compile data on all passengers and victims affected by the fire.
