Bekasi (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Jawa Bagian Barat (JBB) has assured that it will take full responsibility for the impacts resulting from the explosion and fire at the Stasiun Pengisian Bulk Elpiji (SPBE) Cimuning in Mustika Jaya sub-district, Bekasi City.

Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR at Pertamina Regional JBB, Susanto August Satria, stated that the SPBE affected by the explosion is privately owned and a partner of Pertamina Patra Niaga.

“We apologise for the incident that occurred last night (1/4). Our focus was on handling the incident and ensuring that there were no widespread impacts,” he said in Bekasi on Thursday.

His side has assured that the treatment of all injured victims from the incident will be fully funded by Pertamina.

“Certainly, for the affected residents—meaning the victims—we will ensure they receive the best medical treatment,” he said.

His side also assured responsibility for damage to nearby residents’ homes. However, this process will be carried out after joint data collection with local authorities.

“This (home renovation) needs to be assessed first; we must work with local government, perhaps involving RT, RW, and the lurah, to identify and assess the extent of the damage,” he said.

However, his side is still conducting further data collection regarding the number of other victims with the SPBE management.

Regarding the chronology and cause of the incident, Susanto could not yet provide certainty. The results of the police investigation and witness statements from the field are still awaited.

“So, as for the chronology, we cannot confirm it yet. We still need to gather statements from witnesses and nearby residents; we will seek details for the timeline,” he said.

Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Commissioner General Pol Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, revealed that the SPBE Cimuning fire incident resulted in 12 people suffering burns based on preliminary data collection.

“For now, our data shows 12 victims, spread across several hospitals,” he said.

He stated that the victims suffered quite serious burns of up to 60-70 percent and are still receiving intensive care in hospitals. The victims include local residents and employees at SPBE Cimuning.

“Hopefully, there will be no fatalities. There are residents and also employees. We are still compiling all the data,” he said.

The fire engulfed the SPBE Cimuning area in Bekasi City on Wednesday (1/4) at 21:30 WIB. The flames were extinguished after firefighters from several posts worked alongside local residents.
