Pertamina Suspects Explosion in Front of Darmasaba Petrol Station Due to Cigarette
Pertamina Patra Niaga conducted checks on facilities and infrastructure following a loud explosion in the area in front of SPBU 54.803.30 Darmasaba, Abiansemal, Badung, on Friday (17/4/2026). In the examination, the preliminary suspicion is that the blast was initiated by a spark from someone smoking.
Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR Jatimbalinus, Ahad Rahedi, stated that the explosion occurred about 20 metres south of the SPBU and caused material damage to the drainage culvert. Further investigation suggests the cause was smoking activity.
“Preliminary suspicion is that there was someone smoking in front of the SPBU totem, resulting in a source of fire and triggering the explosion,” he said in a written statement received by detikBali on Sunday (19/4/2026) evening.
After the explosion, the operator immediately extinguished the fire using three APAR units until the fire was successfully put out.
Regarding indications of leaks, checks were carried out using oil paste, and preliminary results found no leaks.
“Currently, the SPBU is undergoing a pipeline leak test to check for leak indications. Preliminary results show no oil leaks in the monitoring wells, which were checked using oil paste,” he continued.
For now, the Darmasaba SPBU is not operating while awaiting confirmation of results and field condition assessments. Pertamina has also installed no-smoking signs around the SPBU.
“Currently, Pertamina is coordinating with the local police station and adding ‘Prohibited to Light Heat Sources/Smoke’ signs in the affected area every 15 metres on the southern side,” Ahad concluded.
As an alternative, the public can refuel temporarily at SPBU 54.803.39 and SPBU 54.801.41. Pertamina Patra Niaga assures that fuel supplies in the Abiansemal area, particularly Darmasaba and surroundings, remain safe.
