PT Pertamina (Persero) is supporting community-based waste management through the Putri Nyale Waste Bank in Kuta Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The support is being provided through Pertamina’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme to help the community keep the tourism area clean, particularly during periods of increased visitor numbers for the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.

Pertamina Corporate Secretary Arya Dwi Paramita, who visited the Putri Nyale Waste Bank on Friday (9 October), said the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia would provide an opportunity to strengthen environmental awareness and empower communities around Mandalika.

She said waste banks encouraged residents to sort and process rubbish. Inorganic waste can be turned into products for sale, while organic waste can be used as fertiliser.

“Clean surroundings and tourism areas go hand in hand, because tourists are more likely to visit a clean destination. Through this waste bank, we are also educating local residents to create added value and generate a significant amount of income that benefits them,” Arya said in a written statement on Saturday (10 October 2026).

To support the initiative, Pertamina provided an electric three-wheeled vehicle for waste collection and large waste containers. The vehicle will also help the waste bank reach residents across Kuta Village’s 20 hamlets.

Putri Nyale Waste Bank chair Hanila said rising levels of community and business activity, including during the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, had increased the need for waste sorting and processing services.

The Putri Nyale Waste Bank was established in 2022 to address waste-management needs in Kuta Village, which at the time lacked adequate sorting and processing facilities. Its managers have encouraged residents to take greater responsibility by sorting their rubbish to make the environment cleaner and more pleasant.

Hanila said operations were suspended in 2023 because of difficulties obtaining water from a bore well and a lack of facilities. Collaboration with various parties enabled the waste bank to resume operations and continue its work.

“Pertamina then stepped in with an electric three-wheeled waste collection vehicle and large waste containers. This has been a great help to the Putri Nyale Waste Bank,” Hanila said.

She explained that the lack of vehicles had previously made waste collection inefficient. Pertamina’s electric vehicle has enabled the managers to extend their collection area and transport larger quantities of rubbish.

“Demand for waste collection in the Mandalika area has also increased, and this has helped us collect and sort the waste,” Hanila said.
