Pertamina Supplies Environmentally Friendly Avtur to Soetta and Ngurah Rai
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pertamina Patra Niaga is supplying environmentally friendly avtur, or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which uses used cooking oil (UCO), to Ngurah Rai Airport and Soekarno-Hatta Airport at the end of March 2026.
“Hopefully, this can help us reduce our dependence on fuel imported from abroad,” said Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina (Persero) Arya Dwi Paramita when met on the sidelines of the Sustainability Champions event held in Jakarta on Thursday.
Arya explained that the development of PertaminaSAF is one of Pertamina’s steps to provide sustainable energy, while also being part of the company’s growth strategy oriented towards a more environmentally friendly future.
“So, housewives who like to collect used cooking oil can turn it into economic value. Feel free to bring it to petrol stations that collect used cooking oil. It can become money,” said Arya.
Meanwhile, through an official statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga Roberth M.V. Dumatubun stated that Pertamina Patra Niaga produces PertaminaSAF based on used cooking oil waste for commercial purposes and to meet customer needs through the Cilacap Refinery.
“In March 2026, the Pertamina Patra Niaga refinery will realise commercial production of PertaminaSAF to meet customer demand,” said Roberth.
Roberth said that this commercial production is proof of Pertamina’s capability and capacity to produce high-quality products that also address customer challenges and needs.
“This production becomes an important momentum that strengthens Pertamina Patra Niaga’s commitment as a pioneer SAF producer in Indonesia and the region,” said Roberth.
Roberth also explained that the development of PertaminaSAF production at Pertamina using used cooking oil feedstock began with commercial production trials in July 2025.
The production process starts from providing certified used cooking oil feedstock under the International Sustainability Carbon Certification Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (ISCC CORSIA), followed by processing at the green refinery facility of the Cilacap Refinery, then distributed through two supply locations: Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
The resulting PertaminaSAF product has undergone quality testing and meets the international Defence Standard (DEFSTAN) 91-091 for Avtur Specifications, as well as the provisions of the Decree of the Director General of Oil and Gas on avtur specifications marketed domestically, conducted by Pertamina’s laboratory certified to ISO 17025.
“According to the March demand, around 45,000 barrels of PertaminaSAF that meet quality and sustainability standards as CORSIA Eligible Fuel (CEF) will then be sent to customers via ship from the Cilacap Refinery port to Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta Airports at the end of March 2026,” said Roberth.
