Pertamina suffers losses?

We often read in the newspapers and hear from the electronic
media that Pertamina and other state-owned companies, not to
mention the conglomerates, are Golkar's "money printing
machines".

It seems a huge amount of money from Pertamina was allegedly
been given to Golkar, as well as the rumored Pertamina corruption
involving some Rp 43 trillion, then Pertamina suffered losses for
the 1997/1998 fiscal year. The above resulted in the company not
being able to share the profits among its employees.

Why is it that the Pertamina management is so ready to
sacrifice the interests of its employees for expenses not
directly related to Pertamina?
