Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN), a downstream subholding of Pertamina, has recorded a reduction in emissions of more than 13,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent up to March 2026 through the implementation of green shipping for more efficient and sustainable energy distribution. “Through the optimisation of operations and the utilisation of more efficient technology, we not only reduce emissions but also ensure the reliability of national energy distribution remains maintained,” stated Director of Fleet Logistics at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Arif Yunianto, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday. This achievement stems from various operational efficiency initiatives for the fleet, including the application of speed optimisation, which contributed to a reduction of 8,161 tonnes of CO2e, as well as the implementation of eco-friendly ship designs, providing an additional reduction of 4,862 tonnes of CO2e. Arif conveyed that strengthening green shipping is a strategic step for the company in addressing sustainability challenges in the energy and maritime sectors. The implementation of green shipping is carried out comprehensively, encompassing the optimisation of sailing speeds, the selection of more efficient routes, and the utilisation of technology and ship designs that support energy efficiency. This approach enables the reduction of fuel consumption while significantly curbing emissions. In addition, energy management is conducted through an integrated monitoring system that allows for ongoing evaluation of ship operational performance, thereby continuously improving energy efficiency. These efforts are also reinforced by other sustainable operational practices, such as hull performance maintenance to reduce drag during sailing, as well as responsible management of ship waste and water to preserve marine ecosystems. Through the integrated implementation of green shipping, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga affirms its commitment to supporting the national energy transition while promoting the creation of a more environmentally friendly and sustainable maritime sector.
