PT Pertamina (Persero) has increased operational oversight as a response to geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East region. The measure has been implemented to guarantee the stability of Indonesia’s national energy supply, whilst prioritising worker safety and operational continuity as key objectives.

In its risk mitigation efforts, the state-owned energy company has tightened monitoring of personnel, fleet operations, and business activities operating in affected regions.

In an official statement in Jakarta on Monday, Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron stated that the company has established close coordination with Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian embassies (KBRI), Indonesian consulates general (KJRI), and local authorities to ensure security and operational continuity in the Middle East.

“Pertamina has also prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KBRI, KJRI and local authorities to maintain operational continuity and crew safety,” Baron said.

This step forms part of the company’s anticipatory strategy in facing potential disruptions to global energy supply chains due to regional uncertainty.

As a company holding a vital role in Indonesia’s energy system, Pertamina ensures all business lines, from crude oil procurement to domestic fuel and liquefied petroleum gas distribution, continue to operate optimally and in a controlled manner.

Three strategic entities directly involved in activities in the Middle East region are under heightened monitoring:

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non Captive, which conducts global energy transportation activities.

Pertamina International EP (PIEP), which manages upstream operations in Basra, Iraq.

Pertamina Patra Niaga, which handles crude oil procurement and energy products from Middle East sources.

These three units are under intensive monitoring to ensure no disruption to operational and domestic energy distribution activities.

Pertamina has also emphasised that the company possesses a diversified portfolio of crude oil, fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas supplies. Supply sources originate not only from domestic production but also from various strategic partner countries.

This diversification strategy provides high flexibility in supply management, particularly amid global geopolitical fluctuations.

Furthermore, optimisation of domestic refinery operations continues to be pursued in order to maintain balance between production and distribution of national energy. Through an integrated management system from upstream to downstream, the company ensures the availability of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas for the public remains in safe and sufficient conditions.

“As the vanguard of Indonesia’s national energy security, Pertamina is tightening oversight and endeavouring to maintain the resilience of crude oil, fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas supplies to meet the needs of all Indonesian society,” Baron added.

Through the strengthening of risk mitigation, cross-institutional coordination, and comprehensive oversight of strategic business units, Pertamina reaffirms its commitment to maintaining Indonesia’s energy security amid global dynamics.

This proactive step forms part of the company’s strategy to ensure Indonesia’s energy supply remains stable, safe, and sustainable.
