Pertamina strengthens national gas supply from Sisi Nubi Field
PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) is strengthening the national gas supply from the Sisi Nubi Field in the Mahakam Working Area (Block), East Kalimantan, which has successfully brought gas online at around 20 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from the WPN-7 platform. “The WPN-7 platform is the third facility to come online in the development of the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest (AOI) 1, 3, and 5 project out of six platforms planned,” said General Manager of Upstream Production and Technology at PHM, Setyo Sapto Edi, in a statement regarding gas production in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan Province, on Wednesday. The previous two platforms, WPS4 and WPS5, have been operational since December 2025 and February 2026, he added, indicating that the Sisi Nubi Field development is progressing in stages according to the established schedule. The WPN-7 platform at the Sisi Nubi Field successfully began flowing gas from 23 March 2026, with well NB-701 reaching production of 9.8 MMSCFD on 25 March, and well NB-702 producing up to 12.5 MMSCFD on 26 March. The Sisi Nubi Field is one of the key contributors to the gas production portfolio in the Mahakam Block, which has long been a primary source of gas supply in East Kalimantan. “The development of new facilities in the area is part of efforts to maintain production levels in the long-operating block,” he explained. The additional production from NB-701 and NB-702 is expected to strengthen the national gas supply, with initial production reaching up to 20 MMSCFD, and these two wells making a significant contribution to maintaining gas supply stability. The gas from both wells is then channeled through a Sand Filter Unit (sand filter), he said, to ensure solid particles are filtered before entering the production facilities. The project is part of PT PHM’s activities in collaboration with the Special Task Force for the Implementation of Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) in sustaining oil and gas production in the Mahakam working area, Setyo Sapto Edi concluded.
