Pertamina Strengthens HSSE Foundation to Support Business Growth and National Energy Security
Palembang – Rapid business growth, the use of increasingly complex technology, and continuously expanding operations demand ever-higher safety standards. Recognising this, PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to strengthen its Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) culture as the foundation for maintaining operational reliability while supporting national energy security.
This commitment was underscored at the opening of the HSSE Jambore I 2026, themed “Energizing One Pertamina: Operational Capability Assurance,” at the HSE Training Centre in Sungai Gerong, Palembang.
PT Pertamina (Persero) President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri stated that as a national energy company, Pertamina is continuously evolving with increasingly complex challenges, whether in terms of operations, technology, or business expansion. He noted that all this growth must be supported by a strong HSSE foundation.
“When we talk about Pertamina today, we are talking about a large system that underpins national energy security. The higher the targets we aim to achieve, the more solid the foundation we must build. That foundation is HSSE,” Simon said.
He explained that HSSE should not only be interpreted as compliance with procedures, but as a system that ensures all operations run safely, reliably, and consistently.
Simon also conveyed that Pertamina’s HSSE performance has shown a positive trend throughout this year. However, he stressed that these achievements must be accompanied by sustained vigilance.
“In HSSE, good results must not lead to complacency. Risks are always present, so discipline and alertness must be continuously strengthened. We must always be mindful and cautious,” he said.
Meanwhile, PT Pertamina (Persero) President Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan emphasised that safety must be a core value in every operational activity. Strengthening the safety culture, he said, needs to be supported by improving worker competency, continuous coaching, and investment in training and certification.
He also stressed the importance of visible leadership, meaning the presence of leaders on the ground to ensure operations run safely and that every potential risk can be anticipated early.
“Leaders need to be present directly in the field, engage in dialogue with workers, and ensure every job is done safely. This includes having the courage to stop risky work,” Iriawan stated.
