Pertamina Strengthens Efforts to Develop National Hydrogen Ecosystem

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening governance and infrastructure in its effort to develop Indonesia’s new and renewable energy (EBT) hydrogen ecosystem.

“We are ready to support the four bridges to the future, namely regulation, the regulatory framework, technology, and then financing as well as infrastructure,” said Deputy Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Oki Muraza in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Oki further said these steps require cooperation with other relevant stakeholders, ranging from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to other state energy companies such as PT PLN (Persero).

“For infrastructure, we certainly very much want to share infrastructure and facilities with the nation’s other assets in future, for example with PLN, so that we can achieve economical production,” he said.

Oki said Pertamina’s hydrogen project development is being carried out by adapting to the energy source characteristics of each region across the country, such as solar power, geothermal energy and biogas.

He cited the development of a hydrogen hub in Sungai Mangke and Kuala Tanjung with a capacity of 4,000 kilograms per day.

Furthermore, there is also a pilot project for solar-powered hydrogen production in Plaju, South Sumatra, with a production capacity of 20 kilograms per day, as well as a hydrogen production facility of 100 kilograms per day sourced from geothermal energy in Lampung.

Oki also said Pertamina has received support from South Korea in developing hydrogen production technology from liquid waste utilising biogas in West Java.

In addition, Pertamina is preparing an additional hydrogen production capacity of 300,000 kilograms per day integrated with the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project.

He expressed hope that the development of the hydrogen-based energy ecosystem can proceed sustainably in order to support the vision of national energy resilience and independence.

“Hopefully this hydrogen ecosystem will become another achievement for Indonesia, just as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (Bahlil Lahadalia) officially launched yesterday, namely Indonesia’s biodiesel mandate reaching 50 percent (B50),” said Oki.
