JAKARTA – PT Pertamina Energy Terminal (PET) is promoting the transformation of coastal communities’ economies through the downstreaming of fishery products and the strengthening of the circular economy at the Integrated Terminal Tanjung Uban. Through the KolaboraSEA Energy programme, the company is introducing innovations in value-added products alongside community-based environmental management systems. The programme integrates coastal community empowerment with environmental conservation through three main pillars: KolaboraSEA Pangan Berdaya, KolaboraSEA Bersih, and KolaboraSEA Nelayan. These products are expected to add value to fishermen’s catches while opening new business opportunities for coastal residents. One training participant in Tanjung Uban, Rohimah, stated that the programme has provided a new perspective on managing fish catches. “This training has broadened our horizons in processing catches into value-added products, such as cookies made from parang fish. Previously, we only sold raw fish; now there are alternative products that can increase family income,” she said. This effort aims to raise awareness and community participation in preserving the coastal environment. Additionally, food security is being realised through the construction of aquaponic-based Rumah Edutani facilities. These serve as educational centres as well as hubs for independent food production for the community. During the major harvest event, checks were conducted on 352 hydroponic netpots and monitoring of 2,000 catfish seedlings. This activity symbolises the strengthening of local community food self-sufficiency. “This initiative demonstrates that sustainability is not only an operational commitment but is also integrated into a structured, accountable, and long-term oriented community empowerment approach,” the speaker said. The KolaboraSEA Energy programme further supports PET’s efforts to promote a balance between community economic growth and the preservation of the coastal environment.
