Pertamina Strengthens Assistance for Seafood Processing to Boost Coastal Community Welfare
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is strengthening assistance for the development and processing of marine products through the Community Involvement & Development (CID) Programme ‘Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut’ in Kampung Tua Terih, Batam, to encourage an increase in the welfare of coastal communities.
Pertamina Patra Niaga’s President Commissioner, Sabar Yudo Suroso, stated that Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut has great potential to continue growing because it is able to process coastal resources into economic activities that support improved community welfare. “What is being developed here shows that the support provided can be utilised into productive activities, educational facilities, as well as products with added value. The potential is very good and needs to be continuously developed so that the benefits are more widespread,” Sabar said in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday, 9 August 2026.
Through the programme, fishermen and women’s groups are encouraged to process marine products into food sources, business products, and additional family income. During a visit conducted on 5 August 2026, the company handed over 1,000 barramundi fingerlings and 500 tilapia fingerlings to the Joint Business Group (KUB) Terihindo Jaya Lestari and the Warisan Lestari Women Farmers Group.
According to him, the Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut Programme involves the Joint Business Group (KUB) Terihindo Jaya Lestari, KUB Belian Tuah, the Warisan Lestari Women Farmers Group, and the Processing and Marketing Group (Poklahsar) Sukses Bersama. These groups are developing barramundi, pomfret and grouper aquaculture, freshwater fish and vegetable cultivation through aquaponics, mangrove rehabilitation, and the processing of fishery products into various business products.
Through this programme, the income of fishermen groups and women’s MSMEs increased from IDR 27.56 million to IDR 68.45 million, or an average of around 40 per cent per member.
VP Corporate Communication of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Kitty Andhora, conveyed that Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut is an example of an empowerment programme developed by the company together with communities around its operational areas by utilising the local potential of each region. The Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut programme also contributes to environmental aspects through the management of 35.24 tonnes of waste per year, a reduction in emissions of approximately 113.5 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent per year, and the rehabilitation of coastal areas through the planting of 1,000 mangrove seedlings.
