The stability of refinery operations is a key factor in maintaining national energy resilience.

Balikpapan (ANTARA) - Pertamina Patra Niaga Refinery Unit (PPN RU V) Balikpapan in East Kalimantan states that the energy supply remains secure during the peak consumption for major religious celebrations, with full operations continuing through Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah until the Lebaran holiday in 2026.

“The stability of refinery operations is a key factor in maintaining national energy resilience,” said the Public Relations Officer of PT PPN RU V Balikpapan, Dodi Yapsenang, on Wednesday, when asked about oil and gas activities in Balikpapan.

The refinery, with a capacity of 360,000 barrels per day and supporting 25-30% of the national fuel supply, remains normally operational during Eid al-Fitr as a commitment to ensuring energy supply for the public.

Balikpapan Refinery is one of the largest refineries in Southeast Asia. Upon completion of the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project in November 2025, it will strengthen fuel production capacity for Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and eastern Indonesia.

Community support around the refinery also plays a role in maintaining operational security during the takbiran night, Dodi added, with the company expressing gratitude to the public for helping to keep the atmosphere conducive, including ensuring no hazardous activities near the refinery area.

The Balikpapan City Government routinely inspects the Balikpapan Refinery to ensure operations remain optimal as a backbone of national energy.

“It is very important to maintain the continuity of energy sector operations,” said Deputy Mayor of Balikpapan Bagus Susetyo, as a support for public life.
