Pertamina Sacks Fuel Tanker Crew for Smoking on Duty

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has summarily dismissed a fuel tanker crew member for violating safety procedures by smoking while on duty.

Kitty Andhora, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina Patra Niages, stated that the company acted swiftly to follow up on a social media post showing a crew member smoking while driving a fuel tanker. Based on the investigation, the driver was identified as an employee of a partner transport company responsible for distribution operations at LPG bulk filling and transport stations (SPPBE).

Due to this breach of safety protocols, the partner transport company has taken decisive action by terminating the driver’s employment. Kitty emphasised that this measure is part of enforcing discipline and ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards, which are absolute in all operational activities.

“Safety is a non-negotiable principle,” Kitty said in a statement on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. “This firm action is part of our disciplinary enforcement and guidance, ensuring that every worker and partner understands that compliance with HSSE procedures must be consistently maintained in every operational activity.”

Pertamina Patra Niaga also expressed appreciation for the public’s vigilance in reporting the incident. “Every report serves as vital input to continuously strengthen the safety culture throughout the entire energy distribution supply chain,” she added.
