Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina (Persero), Arya Dwi Paramita, stated that the company is still working to free two tankers detained in the Strait of Hormuz due to the war between Iran and the United States. “The position remains the same. We continue to coordinate and consult with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said Arya in Jakarta on Thursday, 16 April 2026. He expressed thanks to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and other parties assisting in the effort to release the two Pertamina tankers, namely Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro. Currently, Arya assured that Pertamina is continuously monitoring the dynamic situation in the Strait of Hormuz. “Once again, thank you for the assistance provided by all parties,” he said. In agreement, Pertamina’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, stated that the company is maintaining communication with the crew on board to ensure the safety of the ship’s personnel. In addition to communicating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baron noted that Pertamina, through Pertamina International Shipping, is in contact with relevant parties such as insurers and others. “Thus, if the situation allows, we hope the ships can soon pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said. It is known that two Pertamina tankers have been reported detained in waters near the Strait of Hormuz since early March 2026 due to the closure of that route. Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Iranian government has responded positively to the Indonesian government’s request for the ships to pass safely. Follow-up actions have been carried out by relevant parties, particularly Indonesia’s representatives in Tehran, in technical and operational aspects, but it is not yet certain when the tankers can exit the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Vessel Finder ship tracking website as of Saturday afternoon, the two tankers operating for Pertamina are still in the Persian Gulf region. The Pertamina Pride was detected off the coast of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia; while the Gamsunoro was recorded off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
