Malang – PT Pertamina Retail (PERTARE) through the COCO 51.651.16 Langsep Malang petrol station conducted an Emergency Response Simulation (PKD) as part of efforts to strengthen Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects in petrol station operations on Wednesday (20 May).

The activity involved all petrol station staff and collaborated with Klojen Police Station, Koramil 0833/01 Klojen, and Malang City Fire Department.

The simulation demonstrated a fire scenario in one area of the petrol station causing a shift supervisor to suffer burns, with the fire spreading to the fuel dispenser. Workers were tested on emergency response procedures, including internal coordination, team communication, casualty handling, and information dissemination to relevant parties.

HSSE Manager of PERTARE, Ruli Handoko, said the emergency response simulation is a routine company activity to ensure personnel readiness and reliability of emergency response systems in operational areas.

‘The operation of petrol stations involves various potential hazards such as fires, fuel spills, explosions, and risks of worker injuries during field activities. Through this simulation, we aim to ensure personnel readiness, procedure effectiveness, and team coordination in emergency situations to minimise risks and potential losses in the event of real incidents,’ said Ruli.

The simulation began with establishing the incident flow and assigning roles to personnel according to the Emergency Organisational Structure. Then, the scenario was executed to test the team’s response through coordination, communication, situation handling, and information dissemination to internal and external parties. After the simulation, a joint evaluation was conducted to improve preparedness.

Aditya Hendrawan, Region VI (Jatimbalinus) Manager of PERTARE, said routine PKD simulations are conducted to ensure all staff can respond quickly and accurately to emergencies.

‘Through this simulation, we hope all petrol station staff can refresh their knowledge and understanding of emergency handling, while also improving coordination, communication, and team cohesion to ensure faster, more precise, and effective response during operational emergencies,’ he said.

Meanwhile, PERTARE Corporate Secretary Ardhi Widodo stated the activity is part of the company’s commitment to building a sustainable workplace safety culture.

‘Pertamina Retail remains committed to ensuring optimal implementation of HSSE aspects across all operational lines. The regular PKD simulation is also a crucial step in enhancing worker competency and reinforcing safety awareness culture in the workplace,’ said Ardhi.

PERTARE continues to strive towards long-term plans to become a world-class national energy retail company. Through the spirit of ‘Uniting Energy to Serve the Nation’, PERTARE is committed to serving wholeheartedly, providing the best service, and uniting energy for the nation’s sustainability.
