Malang — PT Pertamina Retail (PERTARE) conducted an Emergency Response Simulation (PKD) as part of efforts to strengthen Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects at petrol station operations. The exercise took place at COCO 51.651.16 Langsep Petrol Station in Malang, East Java.

The activity involved all petrol station staff working with Malang City Klojen Police Station, Klojen 0833/01 Military Command, and Malang City Fire Department.

Ruli Handoko, HSSE Manager of PERTARE, said the emergency response simulation is a regular company activity to ensure staff readiness and the reliability of emergency response systems in operational areas.

‘Petrol station operations face various hazards including fires, fuel spills, explosions, and risks of injury to workers during field activities. Through this simulation, we aim to ensure staff readiness, procedural effectiveness, and inter-team coordination during emergencies to minimise risks and potential losses in real incidents,’ Ruli stated in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

During the simulation, a fire scenario was demonstrated in one area of the petrol station, causing a shift supervisor to suffer burns and the fire to spread to the dispenser area. Workers were tested on emergency procedures, including internal coordination, inter-team communication, victim handling, and information dissemination to relevant parties.

The simulation began with defining the incident flow and assigning roles to staff according to the Emergency Organisational Structure. The scenario was then executed to test team responses through coordination, communication, situation handling, and information dissemination to internal and external parties. Following the simulation, a joint evaluation was conducted to identify improvements and enhance preparedness.

Aditya Hendrawan, Manager of Region VI (Jatimbalinus) at PERTARE, said PKD simulations are routinely conducted to ensure all staff can respond promptly and accurately to emergency situations.

‘Through these simulations, we hope all petrol station staff can refresh their knowledge and understanding of emergency response procedures, while also enhancing teamwork, communication, and coordination to ensure faster, more precise, and effective handling of emergencies at operational sites,’ he said.
