Pertamina records 623 BOPD production from Salawati development well in Papua

PT Pertamina Eksplorasi dan Produksi (Pertamina EP) Papua Field has recorded a production test from the Salawati (SLW)-F2X Development Well in the Kais Formation, Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua, yielding 623 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). “This success is the fruit of the hard work of the entire team and the support of stakeholders,” said General Manager of Zone 14 Indarwan Harsoni in an official statement confirmed by ANTARA from Jakarta on Thursday. The SLW-F2X well was spudded on 10 April 2026 using Rig PDSI No. 11.2/N80B-M and was successfully completed after a 54-day drilling process. On 11 June 2026, the well recorded an initial production test result of 623 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) using the Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) artificial lift method. “We express our appreciation to the local government, indigenous communities and all parties who have supported the smooth operation of the company. This synergy and harmonious relationship are important factors in the success of oil and gas field development in the Papua region,” said Indarwan. Papua Field Manager Ardi added that the success of the SLW-F2X Well encourages the company to continue optimising oil and gas production potential in Eastern Indonesia. This achievement also continues the positive trend of the drilling programme’s success previously attained through the SLW-C4X Well. “The additional production from development wells will make a real contribution to efforts to increase national production while supporting Indonesia’s energy security,” said Ardi. Furthermore, Ardi continued, sustainable upstream oil and gas activities are also expected to provide a multiplier effect for economic growth and regional income in Tanah Papua. “With the potential still available, we are optimistic that the production performance of the SLW-F2X Well can continue to be optimised in the future,” said Ardi.
