Pertamina records 1,321 BOPD production from LLA-6 development well
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) has recorded an initial production of 1,321 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) from the LLA-6 development well at the LLA Platform, located offshore in the waters of North West Java.
“The success of the LLA-6 well was achieved by applying lessons learned from the LLE-5ST well drilled last year. Given that the target layers are identical, we refined our formulation and strategy,” said Adang Sukmatiawan, Senior Manager of Subsurface Development & Planning at PHE ONWJ, in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
In addition to oil production, the development well also recorded an initial gas production of 2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). The hydrocarbon flow from this well flows naturally with a Basic Sediment and Water (BSW) content of 0 per cent, meaning the extracted oil is exceptionally pure.
“The results prove that we can achieve excellent production through much more mature execution,” Adng added.
Adang explained that drilling for the LLA-6 well commenced on 24 March 2026 using directional drilling with the PVD-II Rig. The drill bit reached a final measured depth of 5,407 feet (ftMD), equivalent to a true vertical depth (ftTVD) of 3,561 feet. The entire sequence, from the drilling phase to the production flow test on 2 May 2026, was completed rapidly in just 33 days.
This short duration has had a direct positive impact on budget efficiency. Based on current field estimates, the total cost incurred for the LLA-6 well stands at only 61.5 per cent of the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) approved by SKK Migas. This near 40 per cent saving represents a significant achievement.
Muzwir Wiratama, General Manager of PHE ONWJ, expressed full appreciation for the hard work of the entire team involved. He noted that achieving maximum results with cost-effective methods is a tangible manifestation of efforts towards sustainable domestic energy security.
“This success is very special because we are not only considering the volume of lifting achieved, but also how efficiently the costs are spent,” said Muzwir.
Not resting on the success of the LLA-6 well, the PHE ONWJ fleet and team have already shifted operational focus. Drilling preparations are underway for the next targets, the LLA-5 and LLA-7 wells.
“There are several more drilling work plans targeting the same layers in the future. We hope the results from the LLA-5 and LLA-7 wells will match or even exceed this performance. We are continuously making our best efforts to boost Indonesia’s oil and gas production. Together, we can,” concluded Muzwir.
