Pertamina reaffirms sustainability commitment at Sustainability Champions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina (Persero) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a culture of sustainability through concrete actions by Pertamina officers in the areas of environmental preservation, social responsibility, and governance (environment, social, governance/ESG) via the Sustainability Champions programme.
“As an integrated energy company, Pertamina is committed to sustainability and strives to build a legacy for future generations,” said Pertamina Corporate Secretary Arya Dwi Paramita at the Sustainability Champions event held in Jakarta on Thursday.
Pertamina’s commitment is embodied through the Dual Growth Strategy, which maximises existing (legacy) businesses and builds low-carbon businesses.
These efforts include the development of Carbon Capture and Storage/Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCS/CCUS) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), an environmentally friendly aircraft fuel. Pertamina’s innovations play an active role in reducing emissions while involving community participation.
Regarding the Sustainability Principles, Senior Vice President of Business Sustainability at PT Pertamina (Persero) Wenny Ipmawan revealed that Pertamina has 10 Sustainability Focuses, ranging from environmental, social, to governance aspects.
“Nevertheless, Pertamina continues to cultivate sustainability aspects moving forward. The officers who become sustainability champions will serve as Pertamina’s agents of change, as officers who can spread sustainability within and outside Pertamina, thereby making it a continuous culture,” said Wenny.
Arya added that the concrete actions of Pertamina officers also serve as role models for wise energy use, especially amid the current global geopolitical dynamics.
“One important thing is Energy-Wise Behaviour, starting now and from the smallest scope of the environment; let us use energy according to needs for sustainability in the future,” he said.
Pertamina’s sustainability steps have received appreciation from ESG drivers. Founder and President Director of the Institute for Sustainability and Agility (ISA), Maria R. Nindita, explained that challenges in the energy sector cannot be solved only by seeking new energy sources, but also by changing the way energy is consumed.
“If Pertamina officers can prove efficiency through sustainability innovations, this will become strong legitimacy for educating the public to use fuel more wisely,” she said.
The series of Pertamina Sustainability Champions activities was also attended by Pertamina officers, ESG drivers and communities, as well as students from Pertamina University.
