Pertamina Pride Tanker Successfully Navigates Strait of Hormuz

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that its very large crude carrier (VLCC), Pertamina Pride, has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel’s successful passage follows that of the Gamsunoro, meaning both PIS ships that had been held up since March can now resume their journeys and normal operations, according to Pjs Corporate Secretary Vega. The Pertamina Pride began moving on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at 1pm Dubai time and successfully navigated the critical area and the Strait of Hormuz by 12.15am Western Indonesia Time on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. This success demonstrates that the risk mitigation and operational monitoring carried out by PIS were effective in ensuring navigational safety amid regional dynamics. Vega expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and all parties for their support. Similar to the Gamsunoro, the timing and route for the Pertamina Pride’s transit were determined through rigorous discussion and risk assessment, requiring dozens of conditions to be met, including insurance, technical and operational aspects, security, and crew readiness. The vessel was monitored 24 hours a day during the voyage, with the crew at sea coordinating continuously with the onshore team on standby at the PIS crisis centre. Vega explained that all crew members are safe, and the tanker, with a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, is continuing its journey to Cilacap to deliver the cargo and safeguard national energy security. The Pertamina Pride is expected to take 15 days to complete the voyage and arrive in Indonesia on 23 July. PIS continues to intensively monitor security conditions on international shipping lanes and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure crew safety, cargo security, and the smooth distribution of national energy.
