Pertamina Pride Becomes Second Tanker to Exit Strait of Hormuz

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that all of its vessels detained since March 2026 have now successfully exited the Strait of Hormuz. The confirmation follows the safe passage of the VLCC Pertamina Pride through the strategic shipping lane. The vessel is expected to take 15 days to travel and arrive in Indonesia on 23 July. “Following the success of the Gamsunoro, the Pertamina Pride has also exited the Arabian Gulf area and passed through the Strait of Hormuz last night. This means both PIS vessels that were detained since March can now continue their journey and resume normal operations,” said Pjs Corporate Secretary Vega Pita in a written statement on Thursday (9/7/2026). Vega explained that Pertamina Pride began moving from the Arabian Gulf on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at 13:00 Dubai time (16:00 WIB). The vessel then successfully transited the critical area and the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 at 00:15 WIB. According to Vega, this success demonstrates that the risk mitigation and operational monitoring carried out by PIS were effective in maintaining shipping safety amidst regional dynamics. “We express our appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and all parties for their support so far,” Vega added. The determination of the timing and route for Pertamina Pride’s passage through the Strait of Hormuz was made through rigorous discussion and risk assessment. PIS considered dozens of requirements, ranging from insurance, technical and operational aspects, security, to crew readiness before deciding the vessel should move from the Arabian Gulf. During the voyage, the ship’s operations were monitored 24 hours a day. All crew members are reported to be in safe condition. The tanker, with a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, is continuing its voyage to Cilacap to deliver its cargo and maintain national energy security. PIS continues to monitor security conditions in international shipping lanes and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure crew safety, cargo security, and the smooth distribution of national energy.
