PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to develop its low-carbon energy business to support green economic growth towards ‘Indonesia Emas 2045’. Simultaneously, Pertamina maintains its role in ensuring energy availability to meet public needs.

Senior Vice President of Business Sustainability at Pertamina, Wenny Ipmaemon, stated that these two objectives run in parallel within Pertamina’s growth strategy. The company is reducing emissions from its operational activities while developing new business opportunities, including biofuels, geothermal energy, clean energy electricity, waste-to-energy, and green hydrogen.

“Indonesia’s energy demand continues to grow. Therefore, the energy transition must be carried out gradually, while ensuring that energy remains available and low-carbon business opportunities can flourish,” said Wenny.

According to Wenny, Pertamina is selecting technologies suited to the needs and characteristics of each activity, including solar power, battery energy storage, and carbon capture and storage.

Pertamina is also continuously improving efficiency in its operational activities through energy savings, optimisation of fuel use, and the implementation of clean energy technologies. This step helps suppress emissions while making operations more efficient.

“We want low-carbon initiatives to not stop at the technology development stage. The projects must also be economically viable and commercially sustainable,” said Wenny.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, stated that the development of low-carbon business is part of Pertamina’s efforts to prepare for the future of national energy.

“As a national energy company, Pertamina continues to meet today’s energy needs while preparing energy options for the future. We hope that the development of low-carbon business can support economic growth and provide broader benefits for Indonesia,” said Baron.

The performance of this decarbonisation programme has been successfully implemented, with emission reductions exceeding the targets set in the 2026 Corporate Budget and Work Plan (RKAP). Throughout the first semester of 2026, the Pertamina Group’s decarbonisation successfully reduced carbon emissions by 118 per cent above the 2026 target.

“As a world-class energy company, Pertamina is committed to implementing ESG in accordance with international standards. Pertamina’s decarbonisation is also a corporate commitment to achieving the Government’s target of Net Zero Emissions by 2060,” concluded Baron.
