Pertamina Prepares for Green Aviation Fuel Expansion into Global Markets, ISCC Certification as Key Asset
PT Pertamina (Persero) is building a globally verified Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) ecosystem as a step towards expanding its market into Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. This effort is aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global low-carbon aviation fuel supply chain.
Agung Wicaksono, Director of Business Transformation and Sustainability at Pertamina, stated that SAF development is part of the company’s strategy to promote decarbonisation in the aviation sector whilst increasing competitiveness in international markets. This commitment was presented at the ISCC Global Sustainability Conference 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.
“This forum brings together global SAF producers and aviation industry players. Pertamina’s presence demonstrates that Indonesia is not merely a market, but part of the global solution. We are ready to enter the global market through SAF,” Agung said on Saturday (28/2/2026).
According to Agung, participation in this forum reflects recognition of Indonesia’s capacity as a waste-based SAF producer. The development of sustainable fuel is also positioned as Indonesia’s contribution to reducing emissions from the global aviation sector.
Pertamina is targeting regional and international markets beyond domestic requirements. The company is preparing SAF products to meet technical specifications, sustainability aspects, and international standards that are prerequisites for export.
“Beyond the domestic market, we are targeting regional and global aviation markets, including Europe and Asia-Pacific. We are preparing SAF to be competitive in terms of technical specifications, sustainability, and global standards,” Agung stated.
To support international market penetration, Pertamina ensures that the entire SAF value chain has obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). This certification covers raw material collection, processing, storage, and distribution to guarantee traceability and compliance with global carbon standards.
SAF development is also directed towards building an integrated ecosystem that connects raw material collection at the community level with international aviation market demands.
“Our focus is not only production, but building a credible, measurable, and globally recognised SAF ecosystem, whilst connecting raw material collection in Indonesia with the global aviation market,” Agung emphasised.
Within the company, SAF development is part of the business transformation strategy through a dual growth approach. Pertamina is optimising existing refinery assets whilst building a low-carbon business portfolio for the long term.
“SAF is not a standalone initiative, but an implementation of our dual growth strategy, maximising legacy refinery assets whilst building a low-carbon business that can be developed,” he explained.
