Pertamina Plaju Refinery Involves 2,500 Local Workers for Maintenance
Palembang (ANTARA) - Pertamina Patra Niaga Refinery Unit (RU) Plaju is conducting maintenance on its refinery facilities through the 2026 Phase II Pit Stop, involving approximately 2,5uit 500 contractor workers, including 65 per cent local workers from South Sumatra.
Eko Sunarno, Vice President of Refinery Reliability & Engineering at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, stated in Palembang on Friday that the Pit Stop will take place over 17 days, from 27 July to 14 August 2026. This initiative is part of the company’s efforts to maintain the reliability of production facilities and ensure the continuity of the national energy supply.
All workers and partners have been instructed to implement the HSSE Golden Rules, which include compliance with HSSE regulations, procedures, and standards; intervening by reporting potential hazards or unsafe behaviours; and maintaining care for personal safety, colleagues, and the environment. According to Sunarno, the application of these principles is essential to ensure that the entire series of works can proceed safely, with a target of zero work-related accidents.
“The Pit Stop is not merely maintenance work, but a momentum to strengthen our commitment to safety,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khabibullah Khanafie, Executive General Manager of RU Plaju, stated that the Phase II Pit Stop is a strategic agenda in maintaining the reliability of the refinery’s production facilities. “The success of the Pit Stop can only be achieved if we are able to balance the three main pillars: Safe Execution, On Schedule, and Right Quality,” he noted. He emphasised that work must be completed according to schedule without compromising safety aspects and that every task must meet established quality standards.
The Grand Safety Talk was attended by the management of the Plaju Refinery, workers, partners, contractors, and members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) from the surrounding operational areas. The event also included the signing of an HSSE commitment by the management, workers, partners, and contractors involved in the 2026 Phase II Pit Stop.
This commitment serves as a mutual agreement to comply with regulations and work procedures, consistently apply risk management, and prioritise safety during the maintenance execution. Additionally, the company shared safety messages from families to the workers as a reminder for everyone to return home healthy and safe.
The series of activities also included communal prayers and the distribution of donations to orphans and the underprivileged from several orphanages, including Panti Asuhan Az Dzaky, Yatim & Dhuafa Amanah Mulia, Sahabat Yatim, and Yatim Dhuafa Darul Falah.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Plaju Refinery hopes that the implementation of the 2026 Phase II Pit Stop can proceed safely without accidents, finish on schedule, and produce high-quality work to support the operational reliability of the refinery in maintaining national energy security.
