Pertamina Peduli Distributes 'Energy of Kindness' to Strengthen 700 Earthquake-Affected Residents in Maumere
Pertamina has expressed its sorrow and concern for the people of Flores affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck on Saturday (15/8). As a demonstration of its commitment, Pertamina moved swiftly to distribute aid to help meet the needs of communities in the aftermath of the disaster.
The earthquake, centred in the Flores Sea approximately 30–38 kilometres northeast of Mbay in Nagekeo Regency, also affected communities in Sikka Regency, Maumere. Around 700 affected residents received assistance from Pertamina through its Community Involvement Development (CID) team, working together with the regional government and local communities.
Aid distribution began on Sunday (16/8) from the Maumere Fuel Terminal (FT), the Pertamina operational facility closest to the affected area. Distribution was carried out at several locations, namely Gelora Samador Field, Makendetung Village, Waipare, Beru 1, Beru 2 and Waioti.
Vice President Corporate Communication of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Kitty Andhora, explained that Pertamina’s presence reflects its concern and rapid response to help meet the needs of communities amid post-disaster conditions.
“Pertamina is here to channel the energy of kindness, strengthen affected communities, and together encourage them to recover. Through FT Maumere and the CID team, we moved quickly to distribute aid and coordinate with the regional government so that assistance could be received by residents in need,” said Kitty.
The assistance provided includes basic food packages, mineral water, hygiene supplies, and other emergency necessities such as refugee tents and blankets.
Appreciation for Pertamina’s concern was conveyed by the Acting Head of Meken Detung Village, Antonius Moa, A.Md., representing the affected village communities.
“On behalf of all the people of Meken Detung Village, we express our gratitude to Pertamina for being present to help ease what we have experienced due to the earthquake’s impact. The assistance provided is very useful for the village community. Thank you,” said Antonius Moa.
Kitty added that Pertamina will continue to coordinate with the regional government and monitor conditions on the ground to ensure support can be provided according to the needs of affected communities.
“For us, care is not only about giving, but about being present when communities need it. Pertamina Peduli will continue to channel the energy of kindness, strengthen, and walk together with communities until they recover,” Kitty concluded.
