Pertamina Patra Niaga strengthens sustainable food security

PT Pertamina Patacia Niaga is strengthening sustainable food security through cultivation innovation and community empowerment.

In a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, the Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth MV Dumatubun, stated that the company continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting national food security through various community involvement and development (CID) programmes, which are based on local potential and community empowerment.

“Through this approach, Pertamina Patra Niaga provides solutions that not only increase food availability but also strengthen the welfare of communities around the company’s operational areas,” he said.

According to him, one of the flagship programmes being implemented is the development of fish cultivation based on biofloc technology in Mundam Village, Medang Kampai District, Dumai City, Riau.

Through biofloc technology, Roberth continued, the community now has an alternative food source as well as a more stable source of income through tilapia cultivation, which has a harvest period of approximately 4 to 6 months. This programme is also supported by a 4.4 kWp solar power plant (PLTS) capable of saving electricity costs by up to Rp9.3 million per year and reducing carbon emissions by 5.52 tons of CO2 per year.

Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, Pertamina Patra Niaga, through the Pematang Siantar Fuel Terminal, is developing the Siantar Habonaron programme, an integrated urban farming model that optimises residential yard space to support family food security.
