In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen the implementation of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Environment (TJSL) programme that focuses on empowering women across the company’s operational regions.

Through programmes implemented at 49 sites nationwide, 695 women have received mentoring to grow economically and socially. The programme opens learning opportunities, builds self-confidence, and encourages women to advance their roles within families and communities.

The Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M. V. Dumatubun, said that International Women’s Day is an important reminder of the need to strengthen women’s contributions to sustainable development.

“Women’s empowerment is an integral part of Pertamina Patra Niaga’s TJSL implementation. We believe that when women are given access to learning spaces, business opportunities, and capacity-building, the impact will be felt directly in the resilience of family and community economies broadly,” he said.

One flagship programme is implemented through Integrated Terminal Makassar with the PUANMAKARI initiative (Perempuan Mandiri, Anak Percaya Diri). The programme began as a shelter for victims of domestic violence (KDRT) and subsequently developed into a sustained space for the empowerment of women and children.

PUANMAKARI became a flagship programme of Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Sulawesi Regional and won PROPER Gold for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). A total of 103 women and 230 children have received mentoring through this programme. The shelter and the empowerment curriculum have been established, while 36 women and adolescent girls have progressed through various productive endeavours run in collaboration.

Economically, Sekolah Anak Percaya Diri recorded an income increase of Rp 51,984,000, while the Srikandi Group generated income amounting to Rp 86,640,000 from productive activities developed by the Srikandi Group.

The positive impact of the programme has also been felt by parents. Wahida Rahman, a parent of a Sekolah Anak Percaya Diri pupil, said: “My child used to be shy and withdrawn. Now they are more creative and respectful to their parents. May this programme continue with ever higher-quality learning.”

Meanwhile, in Kampung Atas Air, Pertamina Patra Niaga via Refinery Unit V Balikpapan has implemented the RAWABENING programme (Rain Water Harvesting and Urban Farming). The programme promotes women’s empowerment through urban farming activities using rainwater as a source of water for hydroponic systems.

RAWABENING developed 10 hydroponic benches with 440 planting holes, which have produced around 8,900 vegetable seedlings. The rainwater harvesting system in place can achieve water-use efficiency of up to 92,400 litres per year.

Women’s groups in this programme developed three types of processed vegetable products that add economic value. The activities achieved an average income increase of 20.5 per cent per member, with earnings of around Rp 122,601 per harvest.

Then, through the Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) unit, support for women’s health was realised via the operation of a Hospital Ship at Waigeo Utara, Raja Ampat, West Papua. The programme brings healthcare services to island communities with limited access to medical facilities.

In its implementation, health services reached 726 adult women through the General Clinic and 145 adult women through the Dental Clinic. In addition to medical services, the programme also strengthened the capacity of female healthcare workers in the area by training eight midwives in Antenatal Care (ANC) and four midwives in basic ultrasound training.

The presence of the hospital ship provides closer access to specialist health services for local communities. Women in island areas can now access antenatal checks, ultrasound, and delivery services more easily without having to undertake sea travel of four to five hours to urban medical facilities.

Through these various women’s empowerment initiatives, Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to continuing the delivery of TJSL programmes that are inclusive, sustainable, and genuinely impactful, in line with the company’s efforts to promote women’s autonomy and strengthen the social and economic resilience of communities across its Indonesia operational areas.
