PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is conducting a selection process for 101 seafarer candidates who will serve as the front line of energy distribution via sea transport. The selection includes written tests: a Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), psychometric tests, and both general and technical academic potential tests.

Director of Fleet Logistics at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Arif Yunianto, stated that this selection series reflects the professional standards applied in the operation of the national energy fleet. “Being a seafarer in Pertamina’s fleet is not just about the technicalities of sailing; it involves facing real challenges at sea that require quick decision-making under high pressure and sailing in international waters that demands cross-border coordination. That is why the selection process we have designed is not merely a formality, but a reflection of true professional seafarer standards,” Arif said in a statement on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.

The selection was held in five cities—Jakarta, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar—from 9 to 11 June 2026, and was attended by candidates from various vocational and maritime educational institutions, including Semarang State Polytechnic, Surabaya State Shipbuilding Polytechnic, the Vocational School of Gadjah Mada University, Semarang Shipping Science Polytechnic, Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic, and Jakarta Shipping College.

One component of the selection is the English proficiency test using the TOEIC standard, which covers two main aspects: Listening, the ability to understand conversations in a work context, and Reading, the ability to comprehend business texts and technical documents in English. This is followed by a psychometric test to assess three main dimensions: cognitive ability, work attitude, and personality.

The final component is the academic potential test, divided into two categories: General TPA and Technical TPA. The General TPA measures participants’ basic cognitive abilities, including general reasoning, Indonesian and English literacy, and mathematical reasoning. Meanwhile, the Technical TPA is specifically designed to measure participants’ knowledge in the fields of maritime and shipping.

“This programme is a continuation of the previous programme (Crewing Talent Scouting Scholarship), which successfully produced 20 talented young seafarers in 2025, and now comes with a larger target, aiming to recruit 23 top talents from seven partner universities across Indonesia. We ensure that all stages of the programme run in a structured and transparent manner, from selection to participant development, so that Pertamina will obtain the best seafarer talent,” said President Director of Pertamina Foundation, Agus Mashud S. Asngari.
