Pertamina Patra Niaga Provides Emergency Learning Spaces for SMPN 19 Bengkulu Students
The learning spirit of students at SMP Negeri 19 Bengkulu City continues to be maintained amid the school’s recovery process following a fire. As a demonstration of concern for educational continuity, Pertamina Patra Niaga, through its Pulau Baai Fuel Terminal, provided emergency classrooms at SMPN 19 Bengkulu City, Padang Serai Subdistrict, Kampung Melayu District, Bengkulu City, on Wednesday (26/8).
The facilities are part of Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme, aimed at supporting teaching and learning activities during the recovery of educational infrastructure. Previously, 192 students had to attend lessons in two shifts, morning and afternoon, due to limited classroom space.
Pertamina Patra Niaga handed over four tent units, 160 desks and chairs, six whiteboards, and six blower fans as supporting facilities for temporary learning spaces. With these facilities in place, students’ teaching and learning activities can now resume more normally and comfortably.
In his remarks, Manager of CID Planning, Monev, and Reporting, Edward Manaor Siahaan, said that education remains a key focus for Pertamina Patra Niaga, particularly in situations requiring collaboration from various parties.
“Through the TJSL programme, we view education as an important foundation for children’s futures. Therefore, we are enthusiastic about taking part in this recovery process. We hope the facilities provided will make learning more comfortable, effective, and beneficial for students. Thank you to all stakeholders who have supported this process,” said Edward.
VP Corporate Communications of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Kitty Andhora, said that post-fire conditions should not prevent students from receiving a proper learning experience.
“Post-fire recovery certainly requires a process and collaboration from various parties. The most important thing for us is to ensure children still have space to learn, grow, and pursue their aspirations. We hope the presence of these temporary learning spaces can help students and teachers resume learning activities comfortably,” said Kitty.
According to Kitty, Pertamina’s presence in the community is realised not only through the provision of facilities but also through activities that provide added value for beneficiaries.
“Through this activity, we want to deliver benefits beyond just infrastructure. Education on energy and safety is expected to equip students for their daily lives,” Kitty added.
In addition to handing over learning facilities, the event also included energy education about Pertamina products and safety training by the Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) team. Students received education on fire awareness and how to extinguish fires safely through simple practical exercises. The activity was interactive, featuring light quizzes with prizes for students.
The event was attended by relevant stakeholders, including the Bengkulu City Government, Bengkulu City BPBD, Sentra Dharma Guna Bengkulu, and representatives from Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagsel and Pulau Baai Fuel Terminal.
Head of the Bengkulu City Education and Culture Office, Ilham Putra, expressed appreciation for Pertamina Patra Niaga’s concern for educational continuity at SMPN 19 Bengkulu City.
“We are very grateful to Pertamina Patra Niaga for the assistance and attention provided. These facilities are very meaningful for the school and students, especially to ensure the learning process continues to run well during the recovery period,” said Ilham.
Similar appreciation was conveyed by the Head of SMPN 19 Bengkulu City, Lia Anggraini. According to her, the assistance greatly helped the school provide temporary learning spaces for students.
“We are very grateful for the attention and assistance from Pertamina Patra Niaga. These facilities are very beneficial for the school and the children. We hope the students’ learning spirit continues to grow and they can still learn comfortably and achieve success even though the school is still in the recovery process,” said Lia.
Through the TJSL programme, Pertamina Patra Niaga contributes to maintaining the continuity of educational activities while providing energy and safety education for the younger generation. This initiative aligns with the company’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
