PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN) plays a vital role in safeguarding national energy security, particularly as the country approaches the homecoming rush and Eid al-Fitr holiday season in 1447 Hijra. PPN is responsible for processing crude oil into petroleum products and non-petroleum products, then distributing them to consumers.

To continuously enhance its capabilities, PPN has undertaken innovation. One such innovation is through the new Block Mode operational system. This innovation has been implemented by the Cilacap Refinery since May 2024.

Didik Bahagia, Director of Refinery Operations for PPN, stated that Block Mode is a new operational method capable of increasing refinery flexibility in processing crude oil, reducing dependence on imported crude oil from a single source, whilst simultaneously improving production efficiency.

“This innovation represents how refineries managed by PPN continue to adapt to crude oil supply conditions whilst ensuring that the refinery remains relevant to the times,” said Didik in a statement on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Didik also noted that the innovation represents an important milestone in the refinery’s transformation journey towards more adaptive and sustainable operations.

“Block Mode is simultaneously PPN’s effort in maintaining the stability of petroleum fuel supply and improving crude oil processing efficiency amid the fluctuating dynamics of the global market,” said Didik.

He added that this operational system improves crude processing efficiency, thereby keeping production costs under control. Additionally, Block Mode will also support national energy resilience by reducing dependence on a single supplier region, thus minimising the risk of distribution disruptions.

In this context, PPN is better prepared to handle the surge in fuel consumption amongst the public during the homecoming rush and return journey of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

Didik explained that with this system, the refinery is able to maintain safe fuel stocks. Refinery operations run 24 hours continuously, supported by workers who ensure smooth energy distribution to millions of people travelling for Eid celebrations.

“Block Mode innovation is concrete evidence that PPN can adapt to changing times and market needs. As Eid 2026 approaches, the public can feel more assured because fuel supply is under strong control,” clarified Didik.

Beyond Block Mode, efforts to ensure reliable production whilst maintaining safe energy stocks during periods of increased production are carried out through cocktail crude processing. Didik explained that cocktail crude is the result of blending several oils, aimed at improving operational efficiency and flexibility.

“Cocktail crude and Block Mode are two complementary aspects. Both lead to one objective: energy resilience in Indonesia. And PPN is proud to be at the forefront of this innovation,” concluded Didik.
