Pertamina Patra Niaga Opens Opportunities for People with Disabilities to Work and Be Independent
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is creating more opportunities for people with disabilities to work and become independent through community involvement and development (CID) programmes in various operational areas. Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun stated in Jakarta on Saturday that the company is not solely focused on business, but is also committed to creating inclusive spaces for all levels of society, including persons with disabilities. “Pertamina Patra Niaga is here for everyone. Through the CID programme, we open opportunities for our disabled friends to work, enhance their capacity, and make a positive contribution to the environment and society,” Roberth said. One of its flagship programmes is Perintis (Empowerment of Inclusion for Special Friends), run by Pertamina Patra Niaga Kilang Balongan through the Teman Istimewa Coffee Shop in Indramayu Regency, West Java. Since its establishment in 2023, the shop, which is managed directly by deaf individuals, has benefited 155 deaf people and recorded a turnover of Rp300 million throughout 2025. “This coffee shop is a symbol of independence and proof that persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to grow and be empowered,” Roberth explained. Since 2023, the Setara programme has benefited 114 recipients in Indramayu and generated Rp190 million in revenue during 2025. Suprayitno, Chair of the Indramayu Disability Group, said the programme not only helps provide more affordable assistive devices but also opens opportunities for persons with disabilities to work and be economically independent. “We used to be constrained because assistive devices were very expensive and hard to obtain. Now, we can make our own, learn, and even sell our products. This is not just assistance, but a form of recognition that we are equal,” he said. Meanwhile, in Boyolali Regency, the Boyolali Fuel Terminal runs the Difabelpreneur Kresna Patra programme, which focuses on capacity building and employment access for persons with disabilities. Through sewing training, the development of inclusive job placement agencies, and the establishment of the Dwija Praja Amarta Inclusive Community Learning Centre, the programme builds a sustainable empowerment ecosystem. It also introduced the Jr-Difa, a disability-friendly sewing machine innovation that utilises company scrap metal and has obtained a patent. Additionally, the use of waste cooking oil and plastic bottles helps finance the education of participants at the inclusive learning centre. The Kresna Patra disabled workforce incubation initiative has channelled 170 persons with disabilities into various local garment industries in Boyolali, Central Java, thereby broadening job access and economic opportunities. “We believe business success must go hand in hand with community empowerment, so that the benefits can be felt widely and sustainably,” Roberth stated.
