PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Kalimantan has expressed profound condolences following a traffic accident on the Trans Kalimantan Road, Satui District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, on Saturday (1/8).

Edi Mangun, Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR of Regional Kalimantan at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident was not registered as an operational fleet for Pertamina and was not recorded performing any service activities at a Pertamina Terminal.

“We are continuing to coordinate with relevant parties to verify information regarding the vehicle. We have fully entrusted the handling and investigation process to the authorities,” Edi stated in a press release on Sunday (2/8).

Edi also extended his deepest sympathies regarding the tragedy. “We express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. We hope those receiving medical treatment recover quickly, and that the bereaved families are granted strength and patience,”

Previously, an oil tanker collided with a pickup truck carrying community service students (KKN) on the Batulicin-Banjarbaru Alternative Road in Gunung Raya Village, Mantewe District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan. The accident resulted in seven fatalities.

The incident occurred on Saturday (1/8) at approximately 12:00 WITA. Mantewe Police Chief, AKP Kusnin, stated that the accident began when the tanker, driven by an individual identified by the initials MI, travelling from Banjarbaru towards Batulicin, lost control. The tanker subsequently struck the pickup truck carrying the students, who were en route to a tourist destination.

The collision was unavoidable. Of the eight victims, seven passed away, while one survivor was referred to Marina Hospital in Tanah Bumbu Regency. The deceased included the tanker driver (MI), students from Lambung Mangkurat University (MR, 20; ACG, 21), students from Nahdatul Ulama University (UNU) South Kalimantan (NIJ, 22; NAS, 21; VAS, 22), and a youth organisation member (TMA, 21).

“It is true that seven people died due to the traffic accident on the bypass road in Gunung Raya Village, Mantewe,” Kusnin confirmed on Saturday (1/8) afternoon. “There were eight victims in total, seven of whom died including the truck driver, and one survivor, a student from Lambung Mangkurat University identified as MFH.”

At the time of the incident, the students were travelling to Sungai Alut, Gunung Raya Village, for a holiday. The pickup truck involved belongs to the Batulicin Irrigation Village.
