Pertamina Patra Niaga Ensures Sustainable Benefits for Communities Through Coastal School Programme
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting sustainable development through efforts to improve the quality of human resources in Indonesia. One such effort is realised through the Coastal Zone School Programme (Sekolah Kawasan Pesisir, or Sekar), implemented at State Primary School 068426 in Nelayan Indah Village, Medan Labuhan District, Medan.
The programme, which has been running since 2025, is an environmental education initiative aimed at improving pupils’ literacy and awareness of coastal environmental conservation. Through a learning-by-doing approach, pupils are equipped with knowledge and direct practice in waste management, separating organic and inorganic waste, using composting houses, recycling, planting vegetation, and environmental clean-up activities.
Vice President of Corporate Communications at Pertamina Patra Niaga, Kitty Andhora, said that environmental education from an early age is an important investment in creating a generation that cares about environmental sustainability.
“Pertamina Patra Niaga believes that environmental protection must begin early. Through the Sekar Programme, we are not only providing education but also building positive habits through direct practice, so that pupils can become agents of change in their schools, families, and coastal communities,” Kitty said in a statement on Saturday, 18 July 2026.
Pertamina Patra Niaga carried out an educational activity on the use of composting houses involving 20 pupils representing Years IV, V and VI. The knowledge gained by participants is expected to be passed on to all 497 pupils at the school, supported by 26 teachers, so that the programme’s benefits can be felt more widely.
“This programme is part of the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable benefits to the community through collaboration with various stakeholders, while supporting the creation of a cleaner and more preserved environment,” said Kitty.
The programme’s implementation also received support from various stakeholders, including the Medan Labuhan District School Supervisor, Nelayan Indah Village, and Medan Labuhan District. This collaboration is an important part of building a sustainable culture of environmental care in coastal areas.
The head of State Primary School 068426, Nurhayati, S.Pd, expressed her appreciation for the collaboration established with Pertamina Patra Niaga through the Sekar Programme. “Children no longer simply throw rubbish into bins; they can now turn it into various creative works, such as butterfly-shaped wall decorations and other pieces. We hope this very beneficial programme can continue so that more pupils develop environmental awareness from an early age,” said Nurhayati.
