Pertamina Patra Niaga Commemorates Earth Hour with Real Energy-Saving Actions
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga contributed to the 2026 Earth Hour actions across all refinery operational areas. The activity was carried out through simultaneous light switch-offs in refinery housing complexes and offices for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30 local time last Saturday.
The event took place in all refinery operational areas, from Dumai Refinery, Plaju Refinery, Cilacap Refinery, Balikpapan Refinery, Balongan Refinery to Kasim Refinery. The Earth Hour event itself is an initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
“Pertamina Patra Niaga, particularly in the refinery environment, has been carrying out Earth Hour activities for several years. The aim is to continuously remind the importance of energy-saving behaviour among workers, business partners, and families,” said Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M.V. Dumatubun.
Pertamina Patra Niaga workers, along with communities around the world, commemorated Earth Hour as a form of concern for climate change and environmental damage. This global activity was conducted by turning off lights and unnecessary electrical devices for one hour, as a symbol of commitment to saving energy and protecting the Earth.
“Earth Hour, commemorated every year, becomes an important momentum to increase awareness of the importance of a sustainable lifestyle,” said Roberth.
Roberth stated that Earth Hour is not just about turning off lights for one hour, but serves as a reminder that small changes can have a big impact if done consistently. “Energy saving, carbon emission reduction, and environmental care are the main goals of this movement,” explained Roberth.
The actions taken by Pertamina Patra Niaga, according to Roberth, are hoped to serve as a real example to encourage the public not only to participate for one hour, but also to apply energy-saving habits in daily life.
“Simple steps like turning off lights when not in use, using energy-efficient equipment, and wisely using energy can help preserve the Earth,” said Roberth.
Roberth conveyed that the one-hour power switch-off activity across all refinery areas saved approximately 9 MW of electricity, eliminated around 6 tons of CO2 Eq emissions, and conserved the equivalent of more than 2,000 litres of fuel.
“This Earth Hour commemoration is merely symbolic. However, the most important thing is that energy-saving behaviour must become our daily culture, and it must start as early as possible. Let’s protect our environment. A comfortable environment means we are comfortable too,” said Roberth.
Roberth also explained that Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Earth Hour activation is a step in the energy-saving campaign by using energy sufficiently within reason. “We also appreciate the public who have made efforts to save energy and use energy reasonably without panic buying,” concluded Roberth.
