Pertamina Patra Niaga Clarifies Price Difference Between Pertamax and Pertalite on Purchase Receipts
In response to circulating information regarding the figure of Rp18,040 per litre on Pertalite purchase receipts, which has been referred to as the economic price of the fuel, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has provided clarification to ensure the public receives complete information and to prevent misunderstanding. Roberth MV Dumatubun, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, explained that the fuel subsidy policy is the authority of the Government and is not determined by Pertamina. In this context, Pertalite is a Special Assignment Fuel Type (JBKP) that receives subsidies from the Government to maintain price affordability for the public. “Pertamina Patra Niaga acts as the operator that implements and complies with Government policies regarding the distribution of subsidised fuel. The retail price of Pertalite currently paid by the public is a price set by the Government, taking into account various social and economic aspects,” he explained. The fuel subsidy programme has the strategic objective of maintaining national stability, protecting public purchasing power, and supporting economic activity. This policy is primarily aimed at assisting the lower-middle income segment to meet their mobility and daily activity needs at an affordable cost. Regarding the economic price figure listed on the receipt, this number represents the estimated value of the fuel if calculated based on market price components and energy supply costs. However, the public continues to purchase Pertalite at the price set by the Government due to the subsidy support. Pertamina Patra Niaga further explained that Pertamax is a non-subsidised fuel whose selling price follows market dynamics. Nevertheless, in practice, Pertamina continuously coordinates with the Government to maintain national energy price stability. In fact, in previous periods, the price of Pertamax was deliberately held back from rising in order to protect public purchasing power and support national economic conditions. The adjustment of Pertamax prices on 10 June 2026 also considered various factors, including economic conditions, public purchasing power, government fiscal sustainability, and business continuity. Similar adjustments were also made by other fuel providers. However, the current applicable price has not yet fully followed the economic price based on international market prices. If the Pertamax price were to fully reference the economic price based on market conditions and global oil prices, its selling price would be at a higher level compared to the price of Pertalite without subsidy. This demonstrates that the current energy pricing policy continues to consider the balance between public purchasing power, national economic conditions, and the sustainability of energy supply. Pertamina Patra Niaga urges the public to always refer to official information from the Government and Pertamina and not to be easily influenced by information that is not accompanied by a complete explanation.
